Metal Blade one of the most influential labels celebrated their 35th-anniversary bash at Irving Plaza featuring Whitechapel, Cattle Decapitation, Allegaeon and Necromancing The Stone. This great line up would have been even better if Goatwhore didn’t drop out of the tour for reasons that have not been specified. But despite that setback, the line up crushed it this evening, as evident by the electric atmosphere this night.

Necromancing The Stone:
New to Metal Blades Records is Necromancing The Stone opening the showcase. The band core consists of ex-members of Arsis, The Absence, The Black Dahlia Murder and Brimstone Coven, which provides for a thunderous sound. The most notable moment of the band’s performance was the lead singer John Williams who was not only huge but his voice was different from the usual metal acts you see these days. The lead singer from Allegaeon joined the band on stage to help lend his vocals for one of the songs. I must say it was a breath of fresh air seeing these guys and I am most definitely looking forward to seeing the bands growth in the coming years. Only wished they had played more songs because it felt like it went pretty quickly.

Allegaeon:
Next up was Allegaeon hailing from Colorado took their performance to the next level which completely made the crowd nuts. Fans of the band were in sync with the music and the band definitely took notice and added to the performance. It was my first time seeing Allegaeon and they didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to see them during the next tour.

Cattle Decapitation:
Hailing from San Diego California Cattle Decapitation brings their death grind to the stage. This night opening up with “Manufactured Extinct” things started heating up on stage. Fans went crazy as the pit opened up. Fan of the band Charlie Errigo from New York’s own Suffocation was in attendance was and happily stage diving multiple times during “Apex Blasphemy” which got a confusing look from the lead singer Travis Ryan. The look on his face as Charlie kept on stage diving multiple times was priceless and he kept on growling into the mic. Things got more messy as the band played their final song of the night “Kingdom of Tyrants” fans started to get a little more violent and making security’s job just a little bit harder in the front. But it was all in good fun.

Whitechapel:
Finally, Whitechapel from Knoxville Tennessee took the stage and start off with a bang. The punishing “The Saw is the Law” showed the band in all it’s glorious with a pouncing tight rhythm and intensity. With the amped up production in lighting, it wasn’t your usual Whitechapel strobing seizure inducing performance. After playing a few songs the band started playing “I, Dementia” which the crowd got intense for and forcing security to kick out all photographers out of the pit because of the safety hazard involved. When that happens you know it’s going to be a killer rest of the show. A fan was screaming “clean vocals” poking fun at the band for having clean vocals. At the end of playing “Possibilities”, the band walked off stage, prompting fans to scream “one more song” until the band came out to play it’s encore. Phil Bozeman comes out screaming “You Want One More” as “This is Exile” plays in the background. Whitechapel only keeps getting better and with playing all their hits on this tour everyone went home early as Irving Plaza had another event later on that night.
