The culmination of 22 years has finally let Dimitri put his influences into one full record and as far as the music is concerned it plays pretty well when you measure it on it’s own. You won’t have to go far to find where the similarities range because the opening track “The Long War” sounds like they synth keyboard sounds of The Final Countdown.
Musically the set was like a roller coaster. They would bring you up and down and then up again and then down all the while wrapping us around like the snake up in the tree that only hears what he sees.
With my fears allayed and set aside I’m happy to say that Masterplan are as fresh as always and have released an album just as strong as their past releases. The jury is still out as to whether Novum Initium is their best album ever, but it’s certainly strong enough to be as good as the rest. With a master craftman like Roland Grapow at the helm of the sound and songs there should be little concern as to their future.
