From the opening notes of Signum Regis’ newest album, “Chapter IV: The Reckoning”, I was immediately struck by the Christian imagery painted in their lyrics. It shouldn’t be a surprise, considering their last album, “Exodus”, was a concept album about the Israelites escape from their Egyptian enslavement.
Instantly comparisons to Lacuna Coil popped in my head. Her voice is not unlike that of Christina Scabbia’s and musically they tend to lean more towards the heavier edge with the melodic sense that keeps their sound current. On first listen I was ready to say they were more or less a copy band, which in and of itself isn’t a bad thing
They have grown up a bit and as intricate as the music itself is, these guys do a superb job of paying attention to the lyrics because they are mighty thoughtful and provoking. And yes I have to label these young mates as one of America’s best hidden talents
