Sometimes the unlikeliest places to find good music is where you normally don’t look. Case and point is the southern outfit Blackwater James hailing from country town USA Nashville, Tennessee. We we’re delighted to obtain a promo copy of their self title debut and surprise as to what we found. The band formed in August of 2008 when front man Christopher James inspired vision took over and those knew what they wanted to create, and that was a mix of southern blues with some old school classic rock with some vintage 80’s thrown in for good measure.

There’s no better way to introduce your sound to your listeners then the feisty attitude opener of “All Fired Up” with some nice bluesy guitar riffs perfectly painting the bands picture in plain sight. Some AC/DC style fretwork comes to mind with when “Midnight Train” plows your way. The soaring vocals of James come out in flying colors when he howls of “Roses & Rain”, add an addictive southern rock riff to help sustain is groove. That southern attitude and aggressive riff-est comes full pledge on “Stone Cold” with a sick guitar solo and enticing hook.

Is clear to see that Blackwater is not your ordinary southern rock band, they compile a good mix of it’s southern roots, true, but manages to balance a heavy dose of hard rock with angst and melody. There’s no reason why the band shouldn’t find a bigger market here in the States, but of course as the state of music stands now, is hard to make it in the scene, unless you become a road warrior, which by the way the band has, as it’s touring right now and through the summer. It was pleasure to enjoy something worthy of good feedback especially in our neck of the woods. I think any fan of hard rock should check them out, go out and get the cd, go support the band and maybe you can catch them at a town hear you.
