La Famiglia Superstar project is exactly that, a superstar cast headlined by very known names in the Hard Rock circles, including on vocals, talented and award winning Terry Ilous, ( XYZ ) also known for his work with members of Black Sabbath, Stevie Wonder ,AC/DC ,Rod Stewart. On bass the extraordinary and magical Marco Mendozza ( Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, David Lee Roth,Ted Nugent), acclaimed by many as one of the greatest bassists of his generation. On drums, world renowned drummer Atma Anur (Tony Macalpine , David Bowie. Richie Kotzen), And last but not least on guitar, the amazing new Italian guitar hero,Steve Saluto (guitar and producer extraordinaire).
Well of course with this much talent come high expectations right? For me upon listening to this classy record, you find yourself witnessing first and foremost awesome musicianship with these wise and respected veterans. The opening track “Never Enough” is a catchy straight ahead rocker with a tight groove. The acoustic intro in the soft laid back ballad “I Miss You” adds a nice touch to the record. In a nice turn of events, the bluesy and funky “What We Gonna Do” reflects the diversity found on this super project’s brain trust of influences and ideas. Steve Saluto absolutely burns the cover of the speakers with the jammy track “I Come Around”.
I liked everything about this release, why you ask? Well is not just the fact of the talent involved but rather they created a type of style that is not really what you expect from any of them at all. Is a mix bags of tunes but you hear every one of their styles blend in so well, Saluto’s funky bluesy guitar playing, the classy vocals of Ilous and the feisty bass playing of Mendoza, and it works damn well. Heck even the acoustic remake of the Whitesnake classic “Here I Go Again” is ingeniously performed in a new light. Highly recommended for all fans of their individual music and any hard rock fan in general.
