Terry Brock has been a busy guy lately with his leading role as the front man of Giant and they’re come back album earlier this year in “Promise Land” and of course for you newbies out there Terry’s career was launched in the 80’s when he broke ground with his band “Strangeways” one of the best British AOR bands around that time. His collaboration here comes with partner and guitarist/producer Mike Slamer from his Seventh Key and Slamer contributions together. But to sum up a history lesson into Brock’s career can be easily linked back to where he served as background vocalist for Kansas and later joining The Steve Morse band for extensive touring before eventually joining Strangeways.

In Diamond Blue Terry showcases his great voice as the more laid back melodic rock vibe clear the way for him to strut his stuff. The obvious talent involved here in this project is easily enough to check out with terrific songwriting as expected. Songs like the opening track and “Jessie’s Gone” partake a wonderful melodic chorus assembly that any fans of AOR and Melodic Rock will be happy to hear. Moments of struggle and prevail shine clearly on “Broken” in perhaps Brock’s best performance overall on Diamond, the grinding guitars pave the way for Terry to sing lights out on this awesome and powerful track.

What we have here is a solid solo work from a seasoned veteran in the Melodic Rock realms. The songwriting is in part with the catchy performances and tight production. My only beef would have to be that there’s maybe a little more slower tunes then I would of liked but other then that is a fine release from a trusted source and a picky critique on my end. Already having received critical acclaim with the Giant release and the news that Terry is in the studio recording the comeback reunion record for Strangeways schedule for a fall release via Frontiers, there is plenty to look forward to for Mr Brock.
