If fans of Hard Rock can remember in 2005 the Swedish band Coldpsell released their debut record “Infinite Stargaze” and landed a bucket list of solid reviews then, leaving some to want more of their brewing styles of classic 70’s and 80’s classic hard rock/aor rock. Now this outfit comes back with a sophomore record in “Out From The Cold” via Escape Music.
The band formed in 2005 by guitarist and songwriter Michael Larsson, who was previously with the band R.A.W., a band that recorded two albums in the 90’s with members from Dalton and Kicken (Poodles) on drums. Hitting up the mixing is the incredibly busy Tommy Hansen who has worked with Helloween, TNT, Pretty Maids, Jorn and Pagan’s Mind.
If you remember on their debut the powerful tuneful vocals of Niklas Swedentorp made you take notice, and now they return to the forefront once more. The style has evolved a bit from their debut, we have more melodic material here and far more catchy then their first album. I noticed on tracks like “One In A Million” some similar tasty chops comparable to another popular hard rock team name “Acacia Avenue”. The keyboards explosion lead the way in “Time” with a blazing rhythm and bass start, the song creeps upward with a marvel of heaviness, and a special note of kick ass drumming provided by Perra Johanson. The zestful vibes in “Seven Wonders” hits the mark right with an impressive upper high chorus and noticeable guitar lead.
A solid start from the land of ice and snow, Coldspell jumps right out of their socks and kick the cold with their sophomore result. Fans of Gotthard, Yngwie Malmsteen or Treat will rejoice as this one will fall in place with their debut album. Any melodic rock fanatics out there will dig this one up as it will stand as one of the early spotlight releases of the year.
