Another band that has been making some waves in the metal world lately is Amsterdam based groove/thrash metal act VIOLENT DEMISE. They have only together for a few short years and up until this album had only released one E.P in 2008 titled A NEW DAWN OF VIOLENCE, which was very well received by metal listeners and critics alike. But now we get the chance to see what the band can really do and their self-released debut album THERE’S NO KILL LIKE OVERKILL is out now and ready to buy.

I could go on all day about bands that they sound like because there is quite a lot, but doing that would undermine just how complete and good this album is. So what I will do instead is just let you know that if you like no-bullshit, groove-based thrash metal then VIOLENT DEMISE should definitely be on your radar. Yes there are a lot of bands vying for success in the groove/thrash genre at the moment, which may make things hard for these guys, but surely there’s room for one more, even if it does mean that they spend most of the career as high quality support acts for the major bands in the genre.

I will say that I think thirteen songs here is a bit too much to listen to all at once, this is more to do with the bands chosen genre rather than them personally, but for me I would have liked it to have been cut down to ten or eleven tunes and cut out a few of the similar mid-paced numbers. The highlights appear with ANGELS, BLOOD OF OTHERS and WOLVES, but there is probably another two or three that I could have added to that list if I really wanted to. Hey, three highlights is enough right? Yup!

One major advantage VIOLENT DEMISE have going forward is that even though this a self-released album, the physical presentation and the audio production are excellent and as good as a lot of major label efforts. In doing this the band has ensured that all who come across them will know how serious they are about succeeding, which as we all know is half the battle won already. Go check out some samples now!!

Khaøs – Khaøs Rising EP Review

Honestly just the thought of Mogel leading vocals give you a reason to check out these tunes and that’s partially why I took a little time to listen to this EP that features 5 new tunes alongside a couple radio edits of the same songs.

Revolution Saints – Rise Review

There are so many reasons why I am a fan of this project. It’s a powerful trio of some extremely talented guys. Deen Castronovo pounding the skins and laying down some stunning vocals, not hiding similarities to the mighty Steve Perry whose songs Deen performed for many years as a member of Journey
