I suppose this is one of those hit and run releases, many will consider themselves fan boys will be sure to check out this new joint by Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx’s side project and may take it in with some support and fan base. After all the Modern Rock genre in this country is a mystery at times. What we have here is an polish updated rock sound that will blend into the modern rock culture in the mainstream here in the states. I guess Sixx decided to play it safe, but at the same time is not a bad thing either. You have your typical hard rock grove but with a tinge of maybe 30 Seconds To Mars, catchy but commercially viable.

I loosely recall some song of the bands debut “The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack” in late 2008 but it didn’t blow anything out of the water either. So carefully I had been listening to this interesting pick since it came out a while ago. It’s really not bad at all, for fans of modern rock scene you have some nice tunes and catchy, with an alternative bellowing base at times. Both “Live Forever” and “Are You With Me” now features an industrial groove bass rhythm that caught my attention. The pace picked up again after the more laid back rocker “Sure Feels Right”, we dig into the more hard rock laden cut “Deadlihood”, a tale of the Hollywood dark side of things?

For the curious minds the actual title of the album was inspired by the book that Nikki Sixx released last year of the same name. Some of the songs on this album were inspired by the photographs from the book itself, others inspired photographs of their own, as the book is part photo, part journal. At the end of the day what you have here is a nice effort but nothing mind blowing. It has some pretty good songwriting especially on the song “Smile”, where lead singer James Micheal blasts out the line “What’s an angel like you doing with a devil like me”, the same goes for the ballad “Skin” featuring some powerful lyrics and beautiful piano lead….. plus the music is fair so with that I judged it accordingly. For fans of the Crue is a nice piece to check out.
