We usually don’t review many EP I don’t know why really, but a good reason if the EP’s we get are unsigned bands that often times still have plenty of work to do if they want to release something worthwhile for the everyday listener. But in the case of the project Rubion Cross by Firehouse vocalist C J Snare and guitarist Chris Green from the band Furyon, there is an exception to our rule.

Even though I am not a fan of unfinished work, what we have here is a hard rock/melodic rock EP that silently had been making waves in the scene and has already garner some really good feedback from online publications and beyond.

The music here is modernly paced Hard Rock with the unique vocals of C J Snare, the tight guitar playing of Green are specially good on each of the 4 tracks on this limited release. Snare is a fantastic vocalist who has always had the ability to write good rocking tunes and on the first song here “Moving On” he proves that fact once more. The acoustic guitar opening of the song give it a traditional western rocky groove but instantly picks up into a modern hard rock approach that actually sounds good.

The straight forward rocker of “Next Worst Enemy” comes out of the gates screaming and with a super crunchy fun guitar lick. This super raunchy tune takes the ball in terms of melodic and heaviness all together, plus Chris Green shreds the cover off the song with his blistering solo half way through. This one has single written all over it, very catchy tune.

I have always loved the more laid back power ballads from Firehouse, simply put Snare can write some very interesting music, and on here “Shine” the last track on the EP comes out slowly and beautifully at the beginning and it plays out like a heartfelt piece of music that bands now a days just don’t make any more. Is hard to capture a good rock ballad but both guys capture that feel on here.

I have to be upfront and say that after hearing in the scene circles about this excellent EP, I couldn’t wait to get a hold of it and big thanks to Chris for sending us copies of this limited release. This is a project I am very excited to recommend to all Hard Rock fans out there, it has the power vocals of CJ Snare who’s tremendous in everything he does, very good writing and catchy tunes that will stick in your head long after. Chris Green is a sharp guitar man I don’t why I hadn’t heard too much about him but I have a feeling that when this full record comes out, he will turn some heads because his guitar playing is magnificent. A very edgy modern hard rock release that nobody should miss.
