Exclusive Interview with Chandler Mogel (Vocals) (Outloud, Khaos)

Pretty much right then and there. I was singing in a buddy’s cover band; I mean I was TRYING to sing lol, but I knew it was something special,...

Interviewed by Denys (Site Founder/Senior Staff Writer) Myglobalmind Webzine

Myglobalmind: Hi Chandler welcome to Myglobalmind and thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for our readers and fans of your work!!!

Chandler: My pleasure Denys.

Myglobalmind: How are you? You’re a super busy dude when do you ever get down time to relax?

Chandler: Haha rarely. This day and age you have to be busy constantly to stay afloat. But that’s not to say I don’t deserve to relax once in a while. Of course I do but it’s usually limited to one day per week (I guess some people don’t even get that much lol!).

Myglobalmind: Before we get into the new Khaøs EP, let’s talk about a little history; tell your readers where you are originally from, when you got started in the music biz and some of the past bands you have been in in case some are not aware?

Chandler: I’m from the small town of Reading, Pennsylvania but now reside in the NYC area (where I grew up is only about 2.5 hours away). I’ve only been singing for about ten years but I really got serious when I moved up here. One of the first bands I joined here was a metal group called Until Destiny; shortly after I got the Talon gig; then Outloud, and a handful of other stuff in between…..you guys can read the whole story at www.chandlermogel.com – it’s much easier to just direct you there!

Myglobalmind: I know that you started singing or at least finding out you could sing around the age of 22, when did you decide you wanted to do this as a full time gig?

Chandler: Pretty much right then and there. I was singing in a buddy’s cover band; I mean I was TRYING to sing lol, but I knew it was something special, and when I began taking vocal lessons it was all over – I knew that this was my purpose in life.

Myglobalmind: Talk about the time spent with former TNT great vocalist Tony Harnell I know you worked with him on vocal training a few years ago, how was that and how did it help your singing?

Chandler: I still work with him from time to time. He has taught me so much; he’s like a big brother to me. The reason we clicked is that I have a drive to really go somewhere with it. There’s nothing else like Tony’s system and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has goals as a singer.

Myglobalmind: Describe the local rock scene in the NY clubs I know you moved out there permanently to pursue your dream of being a full time musician, how did it go at the beginning?

Chandler: Well there’s not much of a “rock scene” unfortunately, one of the reasons I’ve done a lot of work abroad lol. Well the rock scene here is not what it used to be. But there are great opportunities here for anyone pursuing any type of goal in music. There are great musicians and venues here for every genre.

When I first moved here I was bar tending six nights a week; when the time was right I made the move to just doing music. And it’s been that way ever since. Like I said the opportunities to utilize my craft are tremendous. I probably couldn’t do that in any other town.

Myglobalmind: You are one of the most promising young Hard Rock vocalist out there, it seems like you have just began to tip the iceberg in terms of breaking ground, are you expecting big things in the future?

Chandler: Thank you Denys. Yes it seems that way – even thought I’ve recorded on about 15 albums already. You can never work hard enough. It’s about meeting the right people, going to the right places. You just have to keep pushing. Yes – as a matter of fact – I’m working on some exciting things right now that I’m really fortunate to be a part of, one of which is my new band Khaøs.

Myglobalmind: Let’s talk about the band Outloud for a minute, the first two records was very well received and now recently the EP came out for More Catastrophe, when can we expect the new material for Outloud?

Chandler: Well we’ve been on hiatus this year since Bob has been busy with Firewind, so we’re going to be reconvening shortly. We’ve already begun to demo songs for the next album. Can’t say for sure yet, but it will be soon.

Myglobalmind: Let’s get into the new Khaøs EP, how did you hook up with the band and describe the sound on the EP?

Chandler: Our engineer Rolf Munkes in Germany had recommended me to the guitar player Mark (from Switzerland) and he contacted me. He sent me his demos and they sounded promising. I just didn’t know if it was the right thing for me at the time, a little heavy for my style it seemed at first, but once I started working out some vocal stuff, lyrics and melodies and such, and went into the studio to lay down some tracks, everything clicked. Overall I think you describe the sound quite well in the next question but I think there’s a little something here for all hard rock fans, especially when the full-length album comes out next year.

Myglobalmind: The sound is a bit of Modern Hard Rock with some classic rock riffs thrown in for good measure, what’s next for Khaøs and new album?

Chandler: Yes, full-length album in 2013!

Myglobalmind: What’s a good selling point for this new EP?

Chandler: I think you and I have both said it above! But I’ll elaborate and say that if you like bands like Alterbridge and Nickelback but with a little more melodic / hard / classic rock thrown in then I’m sure you will dig what we’re doing. But I will go on to say that we’ve carved out our own niche sound with this, so whatever you like we invite you to give Khaøs a try!

Myglobalmind: The debut EP “Khaøs Rising” will be digitally released on October 29th 2012, after that what’s next for you Chandler? Any other projects, collaborations we can look forward to?

Chandler: Well we are working on the follow-up full-length record so will be going full steam ahead with that. Also I’m working on an exciting new album with my stateside group, Iron Bridge Band, more on that soon.

Myglobalmind: Let’s have a little fun here, I read some facts in your bio and found out you like many of us we’re big rock and metal fans growing up, bands like Judas Priest, Deep Purple etc we’re influences I’m sure. Who do you name as biggest influences to you to this day?

Chandler: Oh yes definitely. You should see my CD collection. Bands like Deep Purple, Rainbow, Whitesnake are some of my all-time favorites. Also the funk / soul band Tower of Power. But this is just the tip of the iceberg, there are so many great bands out there that inspire me all the time.

Myglobalmind: I heard the new tracks featured on your new website, are those just single songs you plan on releasing on future productions, because they sound great?

Chandler: Thank you Denys! Probably not. Those songs are actually from a project I did a couple of years ago called Big Nature, with the great Stevie DeAcutis (Corey Glover, Cyndi Lauper, Prophet), and Billy Orrico (Biloxi) on drums. A couple of songs appeared on compilations a couple years ago. Unfortunately the project got shelved and having about ten “finished” songs or so, I decided that they needed to be heard and picked the best six to feature on my website as a free download when you sign up for my newsletter on my website www.chandlermogel.com .

Myglobalmind: You have gotten some great positive endorsements from label Frontiers Records in the past about your vocal ability, any chance of working with more Frontier Records bands and joint efforts for other projects?

Chandler: Anything is possible. I still have a great relationship with those guys, and hope to do something soon in the future with them!

Myglobalmind: What’s your biggest ambition in life?

Chandler: Seeing this world rid of criminality, war & drugs.

Myglobalmind: What’s your favorite album of all time?

Chandler: That’s too hard! Deep Purple – Burn or Stormbringer maybe?

Myglobalmind: If you weren’t a full time musician you would be a ____________?

Chandler: Dead man hahaha.

Myglobalmind: Has anyone ever suggested to you that you resemble the Canadian actor Michael Wincott from the movie Strange Days? I know odd but is true.

Chandler: No but I get James Franco and Anthony Kiedis a lot LOL!

Myglobalmind: Hey Chandler thanks for playing along and taking the time to chat with us here at Myglobalmind Magazine. The final words are yours!!!

Chandler: Of course, anytime Denys.

Love one another and follow your dreams!!!!!
