Live Review – Sacred Mother Tongue at The Underworld 17/06/13
Fresh from the pits of performing at Download festival the past weekend, Sacred Mother Tongue played a small sold out show at The Underworld, a venue that replaced the Electric Ballroom which was what was originally meant to be where the show was to be held.
Sacred Mother Tongue were supporting the main act, P.O.D and main support band HellYeah so it was quite easy to see that most of the fans in the room were either HellYeah or P.O.D fans and perhaps not a lot of people knowing who Sacred Mother Tongue are. Despite this disadvantage, this was a chance to gain potential fans along the way. The band put on a hell of a show, encouraging people to sing along and giving as much energy on stage which allowed everyone to headbang along. Although, perhaps it felt like the instruments were louder than the vocals, so it was hard to listen or sing along to the lyrics, however, it wasn’t the band’s fault, as sometimes it seems that support bands don’t really get enough of the same lighting and sound as the main bands. Frontman, Darrin South lightened the mood by cracking up some jokes in between song breaks, which was well received for a band that I forget that is quite unknown in the rock scene even when they have played at Download. South and the rest of the band gave off a big sense of stage presence , with South going in to the crowd, singing with every ounce of gratitude and pride.

The band ended the set with Evolve/Become live, which is their most well known song, and it was clear that the crowd understood that, which led to them pumping their fists and singing along.
Sacred Mother Tongue are on the rise, connecting fans from everywhere , and with their brilliant performances at Download and at The Underworld, the future is seen holding the music of Sacred Mother Tongue.

Sacred Mother Tongue kicked off their summer touring with a much-coveted Main Stage slot at DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL on June 16th they follow that performance with the following shows:
17th June – Electric Ballroom LONDON w/POD & HELLYEAH
18th June – The Cellars SOUTHAMPTON w/POD
They have also just been announced as the headline act for the inaugural Rock & Metal Circus Festival in Stoke, which runs across 20/21/22 September.
The album Out Of The Darkness, produced in collaboration with globally renowned studio guru Scott Atkins, marks a great leap forward for Sacred Mother Tongue. Having refined and redefined their sound, the band have struck upon the perfect combination of muscular potency and melodic bite, resulting in an album of skyscraper-levelling anthems that brim with fire and emotion.
From the blistering, instantly memorable attack of opener ‘Demons’ to the life-affirming bombast and stadium-sized refrains of recent singles ‘A Light Will Shine’ and ‘Evolve / Become’, Out Of The Darkness delivers on every conceivable level: a tour-de-force of gleaming 21st century British metal with heart, intelligence and lashings of aggression.
On the multi-tempo frenzy of the rageful ‘Pawn’ and the ominous ‘The City Is Crying’, Sacred Mother Tongue give classic thrash metal a precise and invigorating update, showing off the fizzing chemistry that exists between them while never abandoning the cherished principle that the song is always king.
The album closes with the grand melodrama, juddering rhythms and impassioned melodies of ‘Believe’, an intensely personal entreaty from Darrin South, custom-built to inspire and comfort those who are enduring dark nights of the soul. It is a breathtaking finale to a truly unique, emotionally visceral and musically substantial collection of songs that sparkle with sonic vitality and power.
