It’s been 25 years since Babylon A.D. hit the music scene with their self-titled release. In the two and a half decades that followed they released 2 more studio albums, one live album, and one album that contains songs from the original demo tapes that secured them their first record deal. That album, In The Beginning, was released back in 2006. We haven’t heard anything new from the guys since then. Well, the long wait is over in the form of an E.P. entitled The Lost Sessions, Fresno CA 93.

As the title would suggest there isn’t anything technically new here, just a few songs that got “lost” somehow 20 years ago. But, since the songs were never released I shall consider them new. There are 3 “new” songs, While America Sleeps, Love Blind, and Love Is A Mystery, and one updated version of an older song, their #1 hit Bang Go The Bells.

For the life of me I can’t understand how (or why) these 3 songs got “lost.” Not knowing the circumstances back in 1993 all I can say is the songs are certainly good enough to have been released before now. The new songs sound great, they have that classic B.A.D. sound, hard rocking and melodic. Love Blind and While America Sleeps are more straight forward hard rocking songs, whereas Love Is A Mystery is a classic example of a power ballad, starting out acoustically through the first verse before the guitars get plugged in throughout the rest of the song. As for the updated version of Bang Go The Bells there isn’t much difference from the original, other than it does sound a little more modern.

The only bad thing I can say about this release is that it’s just an E.P. In other words, too short. Perhaps the guys are just wetting our appetite for some truly new songs to come. Time will only tell. The band will be supporting this release with some shows across the country. They will also be playing the Firefest rock festival in England in October. We will see what happens after that..
