It was that time of the year again, where the folk metal enthusiasts meet to have the party of the year at Paganfest America 2014. This year the lineup would be a power house of 2 of the best folk metal bands from Finland, Germany and a small taste of Taiwan. Varg were in charge to start the party, straight from Germany they started up the crowd just right. After last years Paganfest it was only a matter of time until they made a comeback. They began the moshing in the crowd which was a perfect transition into Taiwan’s own Chthonic. They don’t have your typical folk metal band sound yet they perfectly honor the heritage and the traditional instruments of their land. With a more extreme metal approach and a twist of oriental roots. They have a large following in the US and it was shown as everyone headbanged insanely to their music.

Up next Turisas from Finland. They are always a powerhouse on stage, as demonstrated by the dancing, singing, moshing, and headbanging by the crowd. They played some of their newer material as well as some of the older hits which was great, solid set. Up next the party goers in Korpikkalani. No matter what when this band plays its always a party. With several songs named after alcoholic drinks you would know their was a lot of drinking and partying in the crowd. At some point during the night everyone sat down in the middle of the venue and pretended to be ridding a ship, which of course made for a hilarious and memorable moment. Also the pits were no longer brutal, people would run around in circles dancing with each other and having the time of their lives. Without a doubt, despite the doubts of people of the ´repetitive lineup´ it ended up being a great party for all.
