Say what you will about Lemmy Kilmister, one thing is certain, he is one resilient son of a gun. After the August 27th stoppage of their live gig in Salt Lake City, where management stated Lemmy was out of breath due to the altitude, and the subsequent cancellations of the next string of dates. Lemmy and company have kept on trucking despite many rumors and rampant speculation that the iconic front man may be close to an career ending permanent hiatus, due to his delicate heart and the past history of illness, his life style among other factors that has plagued him. If playing music is the only thing you have done for the majority of your life, and you have been pretty damn good at it, it should come to no ones surprise that Motorhead and Lemmy would carry onward without any fears of the unknown. If you go out, go out doing what you love.

This night at Jones Beach was no different than any other Motorhead night, with Crobot opening for the night, and the always energizing Trash Metal Big Four sounds of Anthrax, you knew it would a memorable performance. Despite a shortened by Anthrax, these boys always deliver live, especially in the big city. They kick off the night with one of their classics “Madhouse” from their 1985 hit “Spreading the Disease”, later followed by a crowd favorite “Caught in a Mosh” and a few of their classic cuts to end the their set strong, including “Indians”. The usually stage antics of Scott Ian are always a thing to admire proving a treat for local media covering the event, and singer Joey Belladona is solid as a rock live, even at age 54. More anticipation buildup for the follow up of their 2011 release “Workship Music”, which they are in the process of finishing up. That album can’t drop soon enough.

Finally Motorhead struts on stage and Phil Campbell and the boys come out roaring, with the appropriate “Bomber” to spike things up a notch. All reports are positive as more classic Lemmy and gang keep banging out the hits with one of their old school cuts in “Over the Top”. Kilmister does his best tongue and cheek antics as he keeps the live audience engaged with his customary English muddled accent. Last time Motorhead played this venue, they opened up for Judas Priest, so this time around as headliners, it feels like it’s still okay some 40 years later to keep on liking Motorhead, and as long as Lemmy has any ounce of will left in his bones, he will be dragged off stage over his dead body. Okay maybe a little too much, but god bless you Lemmy, may you rock out into the forever eternal annals of rock royalty.
