For many years ex-Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore has been passionate about medieval music. Together with his wife Candice Knight, he made numerous CDs under the banner of Blackmore’s Night and performed performances (for example on castles and palaces). In 2016, however, he once again managed to make a few rock shows with Rainbow in a much talked about return to his Classic Rock roots and back to the scene he had once left behind years ago. As a fellow musician, the old master, however, did not choose former colleagues such as. Joe Lynn Turner (Vox) or Bob Daisley (bass), but completely new people. From Blackmores Night, he added drummer David Keith and Bob Nouveau (bass), the keyboards served from Stratovarius Swedish Jens Johannson and the backing vocals mastered by Candice Knight and Lady Lynn.

But who should take the vocal part? At Rainbow, greats like Ronnie James Dio (R.I.P.), Joe Lynn Turner and Graham Bonett sang … .the question was who should be tasked with such a highly position? The answer is Ronnie Romero! The Chilean singer from Lords of Black who was hired by Ritchie, which probably seemed like a surreal dream, a bit unexpected but strong choice. So the team was complete and now you could see things more clearly! Ritchie Blackmore very much appreciated Germany and to prove it was not was not forgotten the two shows booked here (Loreley and Bietigheim) were then cut for this DVD!

Ritchie, as master, conducts the happenings in a quiet way and radiates something inviolable – showing here some of the most timely Rock music ever made, and much of it was found in the setlist. Deep Purple classics the likes of “Perfect Strangers” or “Smoke on the Water”, Rainbow Classics ala “Since You’ve Been Gone” or “Man on the Silver Mountain”. Ronnie Romero manages to perform wonderfully when stacked against his popular predecessors and he even masters heavy hitter and Purple staple “Child in Time”, which Ian Gillan has not done for a long time.

Great DVD, a memory of a great rainbow return which hopefully continues, would be a pity if Blackmore retires now…..no so fast my friends!!! Just announced this week Ritchie and Rainbow will tour again in the UK in 2017, read more here. The picture and sound quality of this bluray are top (DTS HD and LPCM stereo) and the running time is 139 minutes. A thick booklet with photos and text is included. There are also CD and vinyl formats of this publication!
