The recently reunited original line-up of +LIVE+Ed Kowalczyk (vocals, guitar), Chad Taylor (guitar, backing vocals), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass) and Chad Gracey (drums, percussion)–continue to add festival appearances for their 2017 worldwide tour including Arroyo Seco, BottleRock, Rock On The Range, MMBBQ Festival and PinkPop (The Netherlands), with more to be announced soon. Known as one of the most potent alternative rock acts and concert attractions–with their powerful musical dynamics, vocal fervor and questing lyrics–+LIVE+ will continue to announce tour dates and are currently writing and recording new music TBA. The band performed for the first time together on New Year’s Eve 2016–an invite-only surprise show at the Valencia Ballroom in their native York, PA–which was broadcast live on Facebook; a trailer with footage from that gig can be viewed here.

Speaking to the excitement of their upcoming festival performances, Ed Kowalczyk tells Consequence of Sound: “There’s a lot more festivals in general, and we’re on way cooler festivals with these amazing bands than we were 20 years ago. I don’t know what flipped there, but that’s so inspiring, because we look at these lineups and we’re playing with some of these artists that I’ve never gotten a chance to see, and they’re people that I really want to play with and check out.” (March 5, 2017)

With RollingStone.com, Kowalczyk elaborated: “When we started this again we said, ‘OK, we’re gonna go out and book some shows. But what are we gonna do for an album?’ And the one thing we knew we didn’t want to do was decide that we had to finish an album before playing any shows. Because that just felt like a giant step. We wanted baby steps. We want to really experience playing together again, without any pressure. That said, we are in the studio pretty regularly. We have been since spring. And we probably have four or five things floating around in various states of completion. We’re all committed to the idea that this year, when we’re not playing shows, we’re going to continue this journey of writing new songs. And so far, so good.” Guitarist Chad Taylor says, “this is the first time in our career where there’s not a record company sitting there waiting with any expectations. So for the first time I feel like we can approach songwriting at our own pace and with just our own expectations. If we want to veer left of center on something, we can follow that path.” (January 30, 2017)

2017 marks the 25th anniversary of their debut album Mental Jewelry (released December 31, 1991). The multi-platinum band from Pennsylvania have sold over 22 million albums worldwide and earned two number one albums (Throwing Copper, Secret Samadhi). Their catalog is filled with such gems as “Lightning Crashes,” “I Alone,” “All Over You” and “Lakini’s Juice,” which live on today as classics at rock radio.
