On April 8th, Joe Satriani will be releasing his 18th studio album, The Elephants of Mars, via earMUSIC, the international rock label of entertainment group Edel.
Without the benefit of lyrics, Joe Satriani is a master at painting pictures using his guitar. His crystal-clear playing and perfectly orchestrated instrumentation are capable of taking you on an introspective journey into your mind’s eye, and just when you think all the musical possibilities have been pulled out of a guitar, Joe continues to re-invent brilliant playing!

The Elephants of Mars is a conversation between Joe and his guitar. It comes from a place in the heart with honest showcasing his God-given talents. It is one of his best albums and provides all the fiery playing you could have dreamed of with his finger muscling. The feelings he is creating with his songs are reinforced and repeated through melody and tonal color. “Sahara” kicks things off and gets you in the groove while the title track, “The Elephants of Mars,” is a melodic rocker where you can feel elephants walking beside you, and “Faceless” delivers a playful loftiness that exudes pure euphoria.
The Elephants of Mars will be available in a special limited digipack CD release featuring seven double-sided cards of original artwork by Satriani representing each song from the album available exclusively through Guitar Center. I had the immense pleasure of speaking with one of the best guitarists of our time as he shares his insights into creating some of these songs, the unique approach taken in developing the artwork within the CD, and his perspective on touring during these challenging times.
