Devin Townsend will release his new musical masterpiece, Lightwork, on October 28th via Inside Out Music.

After months of hard work through the pandemic, Devin is excited to release an album to reflect on what he and many people have gone through post-pandemic. Lightwork represents the music and the act of creating music as a kind of “light in the dark” while trying to navigate the seemingly endless challenges that life can often present. When things seem like there’s no way out or a situation becomes seemingly impossible, the connection to music, family, and creativity became a light in the dark that ended up in this album. The one consistent idea with Devin’s music throughout his 30-year career is that he’s rarely consistent in what is expected from him and Lightwork follows that ideology perfectly with a diverse “light and dark” array of songs, from the orchestral and almost operatic “Moonpeople” to the metal thrasher “Dimensions” to the peacefully lulling of “Call of The Void.”

Pre-orders for Lightwork are available here: https://devin-townsend.lnk.to/Lightwork

The tracklisting for Lightwork is:

1)      Moonepeople

2)      Lightworker

3)      Equinox

4)      Call Of The Void

5)      Heartbreaker

6)      Dimensions

7)      Celestial Signals

8)      Heavy Burden

9)      Vacation

10)   Children Of God

It was a pleasure speaking with Devin about the release of Lightwork. In my interview, he shares his insight into why he opted to use a producer for it, how self-editing comes into play with how long a song should be, and how he determines which songs can be performed live based on their complexity.
