When Kingdom Falls is the 2nd album of the Belgian female fronted Symphonic Melodic Metal band SOLITUDE WITHIN, which was named after the well-known EVERGREY song Solitude Within. Due to corona, it took a little longer, but eventually, the band has now released the follow-up to their debut Disappear. They were formed back in 2017, and the lineup consists of EMMELIE ARENTS (vocals, keys), FRE DELAEY (bass), HANS SARAZYN (drums), JEAN-PAUL LAFFARGUE (guitar), and QUINCY VAN OVERMEIRE (guitar). Both the beautiful artwork of the new album and the big sound/production is a big plus, and thankfully the music is also quite impressive.
Emmelie has a strong voice and the material is of a very high level. The band’s sound is a typical female-fronted symphonic bombastic melody-driven metal that is not far removed from the well-known bands in the genre, such as AFTER FOREVER, WITHIN TEMPTATION, EPICA, DELAIN, EVANESCENCE, NIGHTWISH, etc., etc. Although it all reminds me quite a lot of aforementioned bands, SOLITUDE WITHIN does it well and come up with beautiful melodies throughout this strong new album. 11 songs are included in the total, and from start, to finish it’s an enjoyable adventure that finds it’s absolute highlights during the songs Further Away, When Kingdom Falls, Astray, and Land Of Disarray, but every song is a winner!
Without a doubt, this is a band to check out a.s.a.p. if you’re a fan of the female-fronted symphonic melodic metal genre, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they have that lucky break with one of their songs to enter the national radio stations, because some of the material is deadly catchy!
