Quick set the controls for 1985 – I have hair! A flat stomach, I could eat Tupperware and drink whatever I wanted and not have to get up and pee four times through the night and I was listening to true British metal. Maiden, Priest, Saxon, Tokyo Blade, Samurai, Persian Risk – all twin guitars foot on the monitor horn throwing fist pumping headbanging British metal. Welcome to the fold Tailgunner – formed in 2020 and all the members are young enough to be my sons. Man, I feel old .. but happy that a young UK band is producing excellent metal.

An early Maiden-Esque trill opens ‘Shadows Of War’ before it opens up into a fist-pumping anthem that rattles along with some fine harmonies. Things pick up on ‘Guns For Hire’ and we’re off on a metallic donkey ride galloping along on Thomas Hewson’s bass and Sam Caldwell’s rhythm. Craig Cairns shows his range and the guitarist’s dual solo – fabulous stuff. ‘White Death’ is thrashier almost like modern-day Priest then we get some real melodic metal on the single ‘Revolution Scream’ before the title track and final cut goes back to some real metal.

Old school British metal given a fresh lick of lead paint and brought up to date by a fine production from Enforcer’s Olof Wikstrand. Hopefully, Tailgunner are going places on the strength of this release because they have it all. The songs are excellent and will get crowds going no doubt. So, calling all headbangers young and old – all hail Tailgunner!
