DeWolff belongs to the exciting acts in rock and blues. The Dutch outfit is active since 2007 and it’s Luka and Pable van de Poel as well as Robin Piso, who bring the sound od of blues to Holland.

The career started in 2008 with DeWolff winning a national talent competition. This was the beginning of an impressive rise. The trio premiered in 2009 with ‘Strange Fruits and Undiscovered Plants’, which was the first of so far eight records the band has in the books.

With ‘Love, Death & In Between’ the group worked during the previous months on their next longplayer which is supposed to hit the shelves in early February. The acclaimed new longplayer has with ‘Night Train’ a vibrant start. The puffing locomotive is reflected in the rhythm of this stellar opener, a song that marks a perfect start to the album.

Compared to many of the other tracks on ‘Love, Death & In Between’ the opener is quite rocking while a lot of the other tracks are soulful tunes. However, ‘Heart Stopping Kinda Show’ is another song that wants your body to move and shake before ’Will o’ the Wisp’ starts a series of songs with a strong blues impact. Feel comes before loudness which also goes for ‘Jackie Go To Sleep’.

The masterpiece of the album though is called ‘Rosita’. With 16 minute running time the song is the highlight of the album. What makes the song and the entire album so special is the warm and organic sound. There is the spirit of analog embedded in each of the tunes and that is a great contrast in a digitalized world. This album feels real and human.

Furthermore, there is the lighthearted ‘Counterfeit Love’ with this irresistible groove, followed by the swinging anthem called ‘Message From My Baby’. This journey back to the 70s is just great with the sound of a horn section enriching the density of this grooving highlight.

DeWolff masters the interaction of loud and soulful. Sometimes within a song, mainly throughout the tracklist, it’s these twists that create excitement and entertainment. The band makes it easy for listers to cruise through these twelve songs featuring a tracklist. There is a lot to discover, a benefit that lasts much longer than just one listen.

DeWolff added ‘Death, Love & In Between’ their so far best album to an already impressive discography. The trio climbs to the top – step by step. In the end, it’s the quality that rules and is the main factor for long-lasting success. DeWolff delivers quality and I guess we can foresee a glorious future for the Dutch powerhouse.
