Malice Divine is Ric Galvez, who is a master axeman with a major degree in music from York University. This is the second album under the Malice Divine banner and Ric assures us that it will be a full band this year.

‘Silenced Judgement’ immediately shows that Galvez knows his way around a fretboard. It’s not just the shred, he also has a great line in riffs. It rattles the furniture and crockery with some blackened thrash until things get faster and heavier on ‘Apparitions Of Conquest’ which blasts out of the traps and goes like the clappers, fair play to drummer Dylan Gowan because the pace is frantic. Again we get some mighty riffs and some sublime leads then just before the six-minute mark Galvez breaks out the acoustic and gives us some beautiful Blackmore-inspired folk for about a minute then it’s back to the heavy. ‘Usurping The Paragon’ is another vicious black thrasher before the rampant crush of ‘At One With Infinity’ leads us to ‘Parasitic Demons’ which keeps up the good work. The acoustic comes out again for the intro to ‘Reclaimed Strength’ before we’re off again on a rabid thrasher then we get more classical acoustic at different points through the epic ‘Illusions Of Fragmentation’ before the killer final track ‘Everlasting Ascendency’ gives you another good seeing to just for good measure.

Loud, fast, and aggressive but with a shed load of melody. Ric Galvez, I salute you and take a bow to Dylan Gowan for a world-class performance and producer Tyler Williams for capturing the immense sounds. My only criticism would be that some of the songs are maybe a tad too long but that’s only because I probably don’t have the stamina I once did. The songs are well constructed and although the vocals may be an acquired taste, they fit the music. This is a killer album – so if you like melodic death metal – put your hand in your pocket! You won’t be disappointed.
