They’re back, lean mean, and angry as fuck. The tagline for this album when the songs were being written was ‘as heavy as possible’. If the riffs or the music weren’t as heavy as possible then they didn’t cut. So, what you’ve got is a red hot and heavy beast of a record that will punch Suicide Silence back to the top. Previous records have been ‘experimental’ but with this, they’ve gone back to basics, raw, vicious, and uncompromising.

Easing you in gently with ‘Remember…’ give you a false sense of security because ‘You Must Die’ literally attacks you from all sides and tries to rip your face off thanks to an aural blast from drummer Ernie Iniguez. Singer Eddie Hermida roars his voice bloody as he encourages the beating from guitarists Chris Garza and Mark Heylum. This is properly brutal! ‘Capable Of Violence (N.F.W)’ comes out for round two with more sustained punishment, so much so that you can’t get a second breath. ‘Fucked For Life’ allows you a brief breathing space but it feels like it’s tagged in its bigger, heavier brother to continue the pounding until they both come in and double-team you for ‘Kill Forever’, and boy they’re doing it with smiles on their faces. This will cause some serious damage played live. ‘God Be Damned’ – jeez how does Iniguez do it and stay so precise, phew, ‘Altar Of Self’ puts its steel toe caps on and stomps all over you before they kick it up again on ‘Endless Dark’ which also brings some serious groove. ‘The Third Death’ is full of jagged razor-sharp riffage that hacks and slashes whilst Hermida steals your dinner money then ‘Be Deceived’ is a stop-start crusher that brings some more groove. ‘Dying Life’ continues the groove then the final cut ‘’Full Void’ starts with a superb eastern guitar line before it explodes into a full-on face smasher.

This is relentless and left me battered, bruised and breathless, and sadistically wanting more! I never knew anything this brutal could exist. Hats off to producer Taylor Young for harnessing the aggression into both power and precision and making if heavy as possible. Call it what you like – Deathcore, Metalcore, Applecore! This fuckin’ rocks but it’s not for the faint-hearted. Handle with care!
