What do you get when you mix a comedy show with a hair metal band? Steel Panther! The self proclaimed greatest heavy metal band in history! The LA boys are on their “On the Prowl” tour.
March 6th 2023 was their Nashville date bringing their fans to the historic building now known as Marathon Music Works.
Supporting Steel Panther are Memphis natives Tragedy, a Disco-Metal band covering songs like “I Will Survive”, “Raining Blood” and “Dancing Queen”. Tragedy had the crowd boogieing and head banging all at the same time! My personal favorite was their transition from “Raining Blood” to ”It’s Raining Men”. With a crazy mix of two genres you don’t know what to expect. Trust me It’s worth it! With their glitter and flashy wears the Memphis locals keep the crowd moving preparing them for a night they would not forget!
Pennsylvania’s own Crobot took the stage with an electric chair just lit up enough to be visible. Smoke started filling the air, lights started flashing as the mad scientist was running around trying to figure out the issues. THe smoke clears and out comes Brandon Yeagley (vocalist).
Opening with “Electrified”, fitting for how much energy these guys have! Playing songs from all 4 of their albums since 2015, they kept the crowd’s attention the whole set. Yeagley with his microphone stand dance moves and both guitarist and bass player’s instruments spinning 360 degrees around them in the air. It was definitely an electrifying performance you do not want to miss.
The house went dark, the crowd started whistling and cheering as the shadowy figures walked on stage. Intro begins leading into a burst of light and the L.A. boys come running to the front of the stage wailing their 80’s riffs, hair swinging around. The crowd went wild with fists and horns in the air as opener “Eyes of a Panther” kicked things up. The guys played all of the hits from “Party Like Tomorrow is the End of the World” to “1987” to “Community Property”, which led to several songs being prepped by bringing ladies on stage to be part of the show as customary of an SP performance. At one point having roughly 20 women dancing and taking selfies with the fellas as the rock out! Between songs they would make jokes and tell stories filling the time and it was just as entertaining as the music. There was not a dull moment the whole time they were on stage. After the last song the guys were passing a hat around as if it were a frisbee catching it with drum sticks, the head stock of Satchel’s guitar and even to the crowd and back.
If you have seen live footage of these guys it does not compare to the good time you will have actually in the crowd. All three bands rock and I know I will be looking to attend the next one! Do yourself a favor and catch them at their next show near you!
