Vomitory was formed way back in 1989 but didn’t put out its first recordings until a demo surfaced in 1992. They rattled along before calling it a day in 2013. They were persuaded to come out of ‘retirement’ after being given a spot at 2017’s Summer Breeze festival to honour the record label’s manager at the time. It went so well that they decided to reform and six years down the line here is the result. And what a result – if this doesn’t get you going then nothing will.

Gird your loins because these guys do not hang about ripping straight into the title track with manic brutality before the even more brutal ‘Decrowned’. This is punch-up metal make no mistake and bound to get a non-stop pit going. ‘Ode To The Meat Saw’ ain’t no ballad rather, it’s one of the heaviest things I’ve ever heard. The guitars of Ostlund and Gustafsson are like AK-47s spreading hot lead everywhere whilst the rhythm section of Runqvist and Gustafsson pin you down with a barrage of power that makes it hard to breathe. ‘The Deepest Tomb’ keeps up the relentless pounding before ‘Piece By Stinking Piece’ toys with you without giving the final knockout blow, that comes with ‘Raped, Strangled, Sodomized, Dead’ which is just a cascade of brutality and evil. It ain’t over yet ‘Dead Man Stalking’ tags in and pulls you to your feet and delivers another aural beating with body blows before the rapid ‘Disciples Of The Damned’ gives you a good kicking. ‘Dead World’ gives a bit of respite but it’s still punishment before the aptly named final track ‘Beg For Death’. Planes fly overhead then the doomy power chords drop like bombs and as you watch them float down the riff kicks in and we’re off on another brutal death/thrash banger!

This is awesome. It left me breathless just sitting and listening to it. The band said they wanted to keep it brutal and relentless by focusing on violence, murder, gore, war, zombies, monsters, and anti-religion. Objective achieved and some are based on true stories! The power and precision that these guys have is beyond me and to play with such aggression is something else. If you like heavy, nasty, and evil then do not hesitate to purchase but if you’re in any way squeamish – but it too because we all like to be scared – don’t we?
