Sonic Universe is a new band featuring a powerhouse lineup of four virtuosic musicians: Corey Glover [Vocals], Mike Orlando [Guitar], Booker King [Bass], and Taykwuan Jackson [drums]; together, they released their debut album, It Is What It Is, on May 10th via earMUSIC.

Leading the charge is Corey, whose soulful and expressive vocals perfectly complement Mike’s fleet-fingered fretboard wizardry and genre-blending style of rock, metal, and funk. Anchoring the rhythm section is the formidable pairing of bassist Booker and drummer Taykwuan, whose lockstep grooves and thunderous, polyrhythmic interplay provide a solid foundation for the band’s sonic explorations.

Sonic Universe’s musical aggression and primal emotion can be heard throughout the album, most notably on the first three singles, “Higher,” “I am,” and the title track, “It Is What It Is.” Each song showcases what these four musicians can generate when they combine their exceptional talents.

The album opens with the band’s mission statement, “I am,” which sets the tone of what listeners can expect. The band weaves all ten songs together into a sonic tapestry that is meticulously structured and thrillingly spontaneous. Sonic Universe’s debut release firmly established the band as a formidable creative force, and their music will resonate with listeners on a profoundly emotional level. Fans eagerly await to witness what this band will unleash on the stage.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Corey about how Sonic Universe was formed with Mike Orlando back in 2018, the challenge of getting his lyrics from his mind onto the paper, how he is compelled to let his emotion speak through his lyrics, a Sonic Universe tour is planned for the Fall, and Living Colour intends to head to the studio complete work on their next album.
