Axel Rudi Pell has been steadfastly channeling the influences of Blackmore and Hendrix since 1989. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to review several of his albums. Undoubtedly, he possesses virtuosity, although at times, he may indulge in excessive playing. However, more often than not, he harmonizes his skills with the essence of the song, thereby crafting enduring pieces of classic rock.

The album kicks off with ‘The Resurrection,’ a brief guitar introduction leading into the energetic classic rocker ‘Forever Strong,’ where vocalist Johnny Gioeli and drummer Bobby Rondinelli shine. Following this is ‘Guardian Angel,’ a lively heavy rock track that sets the pace. A notable departure comes with their rendition of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song,’ followed by the straightforward rocker ‘Darkest Hour.’ The album takes a grand turn with ‘Ankaia,’ a ten-minute epic infused with Eastern flavors reminiscent of early Rainbow, embellished with sweeping keyboards and impressive solos by Pell. ‘Hell’s On Fire’ reintroduces the heavy melodic rock vibe, while ‘Crying In Pain’ delves into darker blues territories. ‘Right On Track’ injects energy before the album’s finale, ‘Taken By Storm,’ which revisits the Rainbow influence with finesse.

Do you revel in monumental riffs, captivating melodies, and pristine production? Look no further. Axel Rudi Pell delivers a meticulously crafted album, tailored for aficionados of classic rock such as Deep Purple, Rainbow, and Uriah Heep. With ARP, quality is a given.
