Interview : Robert Cavuoto
Stryper, the iconic Christian heavy metal band, is set to release their newest album, When We Were Kings, on September 13th through Frontiers Music s.r.l.
Known for their signature blend of sonic power and spiritual depth, the group continues to push the boundaries of their sound, delivering an edgier and heavier musical experience for their devoted fanbase. The band recently unveiled singles “Love Symphony” and “Grateful,” a preview of what’s to come on the full-length offering. These two mid-tempo tracks showcase Stryper’s trademark musicianship and are interwoven with faster metal anthems like “End of Days” and “Divided by Design.” Each member’s technical abilities shine through intricate guitar riffs, thunderous basslines, and precision drumming. But the thought-provoking lyrics elevate these songs, inviting listeners to ponder life’s more profound questions. For longtime fans, the release of When We Were Kings promises to be a defining moment as Stryper solidifies its status as one of Christian metal’s most influential and enduring forces. The band consists of Michael Sweet [lead vocals/guitar], Oz Fox [guitar], Perry Richardson [bass], and Robert Sweet [drums].

It’s always a pleasure to interview Michael Sweet, the iconic frontman of the Stryper. In our recent conversation, Michael delved into his new approach when crafting these songs. Rather than write songs catering to fan’s expectations, Michael chose to focus on more personal and social topics. Topics that are relatable to the struggles and doubts everyone faces. Fans may be surprised to learn that some of Stryper’s early demo recordings from the 70s and 80s are a bit cringeworthy. It’s a humbling reminder of the band’s evolution and growth over the decades. Most excitingly, Michael divulged details about an upcoming Stryper documentary that will offer a comprehensive history of the band, told from the perspective of their devoted fanbase.
