Against the Current’s Chrissy Costanza Shines on Solo Tour with VOILÁ

Dynamic Duo: Chrissy Costanza and VOILÁ Electrify Subterranean...

The second stop of the “Spin the Bottle” tour was Chicago. The Subterranean played host to VOILÁ and Chrissy Costanza, marking her first solo tour without her band Against the Current. The tour is in support of her upcoming debut solo ep “VII”. VOILÁ are co-writers, so it’s only fitting they run together.

Starting off the set with their collab “Caught it”, we get a taste of what the next twoish hours will bring us. VOILÁ took the next three songs for themselves, which included the hit “Drinking with Cupid”, and I was blown away by the talent these guys bring to the table. Frontman Gus Ross has a great range, taking us through “Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You” and “Table for One”.

Chrissy came back on stage for her part, which was four songs. At this point we realize that Gus and Chrissy will be playing three to fours songs before switching. Chrissy started off with “But, What if I Fly”, and brand new song for all of us (and almost the entire set will be brand new music). If you’ve never seen ATC or Chrissy alone perform, you’re missing out. This girl was born to perform and entertain, with a massive voice in a tiny package. Using the ENTIRE stage, she performed two more new tracks, “If Looks Could Kill” and “Some Like it Hot”, which then ended her first “turn” with her band Against the Current’s banger “Wildfire”.

After a few more VOILÁ upbeat tunes, including “Therapy”, which brings awareness to Mental Health struggles, we got to slow down for an acoustic session. Guitarist Luke Eisner, who is lightheartedly noted to not getting a ‘break” during the set, plucked through VOILÁ’s “Long Story Short”. Chrissy took her turn with a mashup of songs that mean deeply to her followed up by her first ever solo ballad “I Tried to Act Your Age”.

For a bit of fun, a couple lucky fans were brought up on stage to spin a wheel for the next song. Another ATC track, “weapon”  was the winner. Here we get to see Chrissy shine. How she can hit the range she does while headbanging and jumping around is a mystery. While a normal person would have collapsed from lack of air, she only seems to get recharged. Chrissy took a turn spinning the wheel, which led to VOILÁ performing “Playing Dead”.

At this point, we’re only halfway through the set. Each act took their turns respectively to perform ten more songs before we hit the encore. Tonight’s featured three songs. VOILÁ closed out theirs with their most well known song “Figure You Out”. Chrissy finished with a song that sent ATC to another level, “Legends Never Die”, a song that was made for the popular video game “League of Legends”. All of the members finished the night performing the collab, and Chrissy’s first ever solo drop, “7 Minutes in Hell”.
