I was not familiar with the debut album God Is A Witness from the Italian band ANIMS that was released a couple years ago, but after hearing their new album Good’n’Evil, I am definitely going to search for that previous record! Anyway, ANIM is formed around the amazing lead singer ELLE NOIR, guitarist/bassist Francesco Di Nicola (DANGER ZONE, CRYING STEEL…) and drummer Paolo Caridi (ELLEFSON-SOTO, REB BEACH, GEOFF TATE…), and as soon as the first song blasts through the speakers and Elle starts singing, we are definitely interested to listen to the full album, because she has a superb voice in a classic rock/melodic rock style like HEART, VIXEN, LAOS, WITNESS…
Also musically speaking you have to look in that classic 80s female fronted melodic (hard) rock direction with catchy uptempo tunes that feature strong choruses and soaring guitarwork as if it was still 1987. That opener The Cherubims is a great uptempo rocker in the style of aforementioned bands, and thankfully this high level is continued on the rest of the album, with as other highlights the sensational uptempo melodic rocker Satellite (a song VIXEN would be proud of!), the 80s melodic hardrock classic tingled Liar, the midtempo melodic rocker Lena and and the heaviest song on the album, the faster uptempo melodic metal piece Nebuchadnezzar.
Concluded, with a voice like Elle and a superb shredding guitarist (Francesco), this band has a lot to offer as a threesome, and combined with some skilled songwriting, this is a highly recommended album if you like old fashioned high quality female fronted melodic hardrock/metal.
