This is Rock and Roll the way it was meant to sound! THE MERCURY RIOTS are coming out of L.A., and their classic hard rock is bringing us back to the late 1980s when bands like BADLANDS, LITTLE CEASAR, THE RIVERDOGS, BEAU NASTY, TESLA, KINGDOM COME, BLACKEYED SUSAN, JESSE STRANGE, HERICANE ALICE, COLD SWEAT, SPREAD EAGLE, ASPHALT BALLET, SAINTS & SINNERS, TORA TORA, SHARK ISLAND, BANGALORE CHOIR, CHILD’S PLAY, SALTY DOG, TATTOO RODEO, BATON ROUGE, DIRTY BLONDE, GYPSY ROSE, SEA HAGS, and countless others were part of a new generation of bands being signed to major labels in the USA.

“In Solstice” is their debut album, and if it were 1990, they would have probably released it on a major label. The album was produced by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, METALLICA, AEROSMITH) and mastered by Ryan Smith (THE BLACK KEYS, THE NATIONAL, GRETA VAN FLEET). The band consists of fantastic singer Justin Walker, Felipe Rodrigo (guitars), Fede Delfino (bass), and Jonny Udell (drums).

The opener “Make It” delivers the goods right from the start as an up-tempo classic hard rock tune reminiscent of KROKUS, AC/DC, and THE DEAD DAISIES. It continues with 9 more hard-rocking tunes that combine influences of classic rock bands such as AEROSMITH, AC/DC, BRITNY FOX, and KROKUS, with a bluesy southern rock touch (THE BLACK CROWES, BUCKCHERRY, DIRTY HONEY, THE COMMONERS). Highlights include the groovy “Be Yours,” the mid-tempo melodic stadium arena rocker “Sweet Melody” (GOTTHARD meets VICTORY), “Light It Up,” the up-tempo KROKUS/GOTTHARD-ish “99 Degrees,” and the catchy mid-tempo slightly bluesy southern hard rocker “Save Me A Drink” (reminiscent of ROBERT JON & THE WRECK and BLACKBERRY SMOKE).

The final song, “Nobody Knows,” starts calm and collected but develops into quite a masterpiece of classic rock energy with a LED ZEPPELIN vibe! Concluded, THE MERCURY RIOTS is a must-have for those who long for the days when real classic hard rock was played and delivered. The band names mentioned in this review should give you a clear understanding of what THE MERCURY RIOTS is all about!
