Zak and Rex Cox Discuss New Album Warpath – Our Sound Has Always Been an Evolution in Reaching Our Goal!

New Jersey's Uncured Delivers Crushing Riffs and Technical Precision on "Warpath"...

Interview : Robert Cavuoto

Uncured have just released their furious new album, Warpath, which showcases the band’s mastery of the Nu-Metalcore genre. From start to finish, the album delivers crushing guitar riffs, pummeling drums, and visceral vocals that grab the listener by the throat and never let go.

From the opening track, “Mask of Sanity,” it’s clear that this New Jersey quartet has honed their craft to a razor’s edge. Frontman Rex Cox unleashes a dynamic range of vocal styles, seamlessly transitioning from guttural growls to impassioned screams to melodic hooks, adding depth and texture to each track. Guitarist Zak Cox is a riff machine, unleashing a barrage of technically precise and heavy guitar work that forms the backbone of Uncured’s sound. Zachary “King Z” King’s drumming is a force of nature, with rapid-fire blast beats and bone-rattling breakdowns that propel the music forward with unrelenting intensity while Betto Andrade’s bass work rumbles beneath it all, providing a solid foundation and adding to the overall heaviness. With each track, like “Prostitute” and “Fall in Line,” Uncured further cements their status as rising stars of the genre, displaying a level of technicality and brutality that sets them apart from their peers. This is Nu Metalcore at its finest – raw, uncompromising, and unapologetically heavy.

The band’s relentless touring schedule has seen them conquer stages throughout North America, with top acts such as Bad Omens, Jinjer, and Bad Wolves solidifying their reputation as a must-see live act. From Europe’s most prestigious summer festivals, such as the UK’s legendary Bloodstock and Germany’s Summer Breeze, to the expansive venues of South America, where they shared the stage with gothic metal icons Lacuna Coil. In 2025, they are confirmed to perform at Sonic Temple, Louder Than Life, and After Shock Festivals. Uncured has left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of metalheads worldwide and are a striking testament to creating an impressive and powerful sound.

In my interview with Rex and Zak Cox, they discussed the origins and evolution of their music, their past and current musical influences, and the impact it has all had on the creation of Warpath. To emphasize the point, they shared their musical journey from being influenced by progressive metal bands like Dream Theater to incorporating elements of nu-metal and metalcore, slowly drawing inspiration from bands like Slipknot and Motionless in White to get to their unique sound. Zak and Rex are dedicated to their craft, and their willingness to evolve and experiment with their sound is evident. Warpath is a testament to the brothers’ tireless devotion to their music and their unrelenting pursuit of artistic growth. In a metal scene, it is often content to repeat tried-and-true formulas. Uncured is a band unafraid to evolve, experiment, and push themselves creatively. Warpath is a powerful statement from a band that is never content to rest on their laurels but is always striving to reach new heights with their music.
