In a significant shift for one of rock’s most enduring acts, Guns N’ Roses have announced the departure of drummer Frank Ferrer, who has held the throne behind the kit longer than any other drummer in the band’s turbulent history.
Guns N’ Roses announce the amicable exit of Frank Ferrer, the longest-serving drummer in their storied run. The band thanks Frank for his friendship, creativity, and sturdy presence over the past 19 years, and they wish him success in the next chapter of his musical journey.
Frank first joined GNR during a show in June 2006 helping anchor the rhythm section during subsequent tours, including their recent outings featuring the reunited trio of Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan. His last show with the band took place November 5, 2023 in Mexico.
Ferrer’s tenure with the legendary hard rock outfit spanned multiple eras, beginning during the band’s wilderness years when frontman Axl Rose was the sole original member. He remained a stabilizing force through the group’s renaissance that began with the 2016 “Not In This Lifetime” reunion tour, which brought together Rose with original guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan for the first time since the early 1990s.
The Cuban-American drummer replaced Bryan “Brain” Mantia in 2006 and outlasted all previous Guns N’ Roses drummers, including founding member Steven Adler and the “Use Your Illusion“-era Matt Sorum. His steady hand behind the kit helped the band maintain its reputation for powerful live performances even as its lineup fluctuated over the years.
The band has not yet announced Ferrer’s replacement, leaving fans to speculate about who might next occupy one of rock’s most coveted and challenging drum positions.
