Italian thrashers Game Over return with a new line-up which includes new singer Danny Schiavina. And boy does he put a shift in.
Opening cut “The Final Hour” sets up nicely for some old school blistering thrash on “Lust For Blood” which rattles like Exodus with its gang-like backing vocals and Testament on the slower bits. Hold on to your hats because “Neck Breaking Dance” is bound to get a pit going. Things continue on “Grip Of Time” before the slower, groovier “Lost In Disgrace,” but it’s back to the thrash on “Veil Of Insanity” with another impressive gang vocal. “Gateway To Infinity” is some traditional metal perfect to headbang to and features a masculine vocal from Schiavina. Then we get “Tempesta,” which opens with a storm and some dark foreboding synths and shimmering guitars as it leads into the epic metal of “Crimson Waves,” which is absolutely world class. Final cut “Weaving Fate” ends on another fiery thrasher that gets the blood pumping.
This took me back to all those classic thrash records from Exodus, Testament, Metallica, and Anthrax. They weren’t afraid to bring in some slower stuff and mix it up. As much as I enjoy the utter bludgeon that Slayer gave us, it’s nice to have some light and shade. New singer Schiavina is the missing link for this band, but also the rhythm section are locked in tight and the guitarists know their stuff. The riffs are razor sharp and the lead breaks are blinding. Overall, a fabulous effort full of energy, power, and precision.
