Italian guitarist and songwriter Marco Mattei has announced the release of his highly anticipated second solo album, Age of Fragility, on May 16th via 7D Media / Third Star Records.
Marco has crafted a collection of songs that showcase his virtuosic fretwork, memorable melodies, and knack for blending diverse musical influences into a cohesive sonic journey. Marco takes the listener on an immersive voyage across various emotions and soundscapes, from soaring passages to introspective, delicate interludes. His fluid, expressive guitar playing forms the album’s core, augmented by lush orchestration and pulsing rhythms that propel the songs forward with urgency and drama.
At its core, the Age of Fragility delves into the delicate aspects of modern life, weaving together stories of isolation, indifference, emotional dependency, fragile relationships, self-sabotage, and depression, which are painted through its poignant lyrics. Musically, richly layered soundscapes and meticulous arrangements produce a broad sonic palette, resulting in a distinctive and deeply personal style. Age of Fragility is poised to be a landmark release for Mattei that cements his status as one of the premier voices in the world of rock music.

In an insightful interview with Marco for his new album, he shared that it was deeply influenced by the emotional toll of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world and explores themes of vulnerability and mental health, as there needs to be a glimmer of hope throughout each. Marco also discussed that while it was a premeditated concept, each song developed uniquely—some from lyrics, others from melodies—all unified by a central theme of fragility. To help express the emotion he wanted to achieve, he composed most of the album on piano to better capture its introspective tone. The album features collaborations with renowned musicians Tony Levin and Jerry Marotta, recorded over a focused five-day studio session in New York.
Marco encourages listeners to experience the album in full, multiple times, to uncover its layered meanings. For him, music is both a form of self-expression and a way to connect with others through shared emotional experiences.
