The return of Swedish power metal force The Storyteller brings their seventh full-length album, “The Final Stand,” and it’s business as usual from the start for one of the genre’s most respected bands. Their peers are asked to wade in rather than just magazines for reviews, and when Tommy Johansson (Majestica, ex-Sabaton) declares “The new Storyteller album is absolutely amazing!! It’s a glorious mix of Nordic folk melodies and guitar driven Power Metal! I can’t help but to think of the early Blind Guardian albums when I hear this – and that’s a good thing!!” with Gus G of Firewind adding “Great melodies and vocals from L-G throughout the album. Power Metal fans, you must check this out!” you know you’re onto a winner before even hitting play.

If you’re unfamiliar with the band, “long awaited” translates to “first album in 11 years,” so our excitement is quite justified. The flame and passion for The Storyteller has been reignited through founder Lars-Göran Persson (or just L-G) collaborating with Cedrick Forsberg (Blazon Stone), resulting in an hour’s worth of power metal that, as shown above, has even their peers welcoming the return.

Epic multi-layered choruses, frenetic double bass-drum beats, and guitar solos that spiral upward to the heavens like a Space-X booster rocket characterize their sound.

For those familiar with power metal, you’ll appreciate the graphically vivid tales of adventures and battles mixed with musicianship that’s earned congratulations even from Gus G. Adding this to your purchases, playlists, or downloads ASAP would be my suggestion.

Score 8/10
