Haxan return with a blistering five-song EP that continues their trajectory up the rock/metal ladder.

Death Of Me‘ is a dark opener built on an alt/doom riff, some fine harmony vocals and a pounding bass rhythm. A perfect start which continues on the punkier ‘Sirens‘; then Harriet Wadeson’s throbbing bass line opens ‘Thirteenth Hour‘ before Sam Bolderson joins in with the same riff and we’re off on a mid-paced classic metal gallop with a wonderful dark melody and a great vocal performance from Bolderson. ‘Burn Alive‘ stays metal and has some “woooahs” in there for good measure and boy does it show Bolderson’s range. It’s heavy, hard hitting and melodic. ‘Collide‘ brings another doomy spidery metal riff that Bolderson follows vocally and just wait for a monumental metal breakdown towards the end where drummer Jess Hartley knocks the living daylights out of her kit. Fabulous stuff.

Haxan prove that they have the talent to write and play great songs. There’s enough weight and melody in these numbers to satisfy any rock or metal fan plus the meaty production from Romesh Dodangoda is exceptional as usual. Am I being greedy in wanting more? Yeah! But when it’s this good…
