Now here we have a sensational debut album of a new British female fronted heavy rock band from Brighton/Hove, UK. They are called SLUNG, and their music is a mix of sludge/doom/stoner rock/metal with some pop/rock melodies here and there. The resulting album In Ways is definitely one to check out, because it offers a lot of interesting material that is heavy, groovy and melodic.

Opener Laughter is stoner rock at its finest, but when hearing the following melodic rocking Class A Cherry, you can clearly hear that this is a band that could easily become the next big thing in and outside the rock/metal scene. There’s a 90s alternative rock touch also to be heard in a song like Come Apart (THE CRANBERRIES meets THE GATHERING), which once again shows what an incredible lead singer we have here! KATIE OLDHAM is her name, and the rest of the band consists of guitarist Ali Johnson, bassist Vlad Matveikov and drummer Ravi Martin. Influences pass by that range from QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE to FLEETWOOD MAC to MASTODON to CHAPPELL ROAN. The album continues with 8 more diverse songs that blend a progressive rocking groovy 90s alternative rock rhythm section with post-rock/stoner guitar riffs and beautiful vocal pop melodies, as if all of the aforementioned bands created a new project/band together. I am safe to say that SLUNG is a band that has the potential to become really big in the future, which is thanks to an amazing female singer, a strong rocking band and a handful of damn catchy ‘diverse’ rocking tunes.

Do not miss this band! They have delivered one of the finest female fronted heavy rock albums in recent years!
