Stygian Path emerges from Athens, Greece as an epic heavy metal collective formed in 2022. The five-member band unites around a shared passion for metal music, each bringing over a decade of experience from various rock and metal projects—both amateur and professional—including former bands like Emerald Dream, Deified, and current project Sunlight.

Their debut album The Lorekeeper defies the typical expectations of a first release. Rather than presenting as an under-produced effort from emerging talent—where a sophomore album might realize their potential—this record immediately showcases a refined, polished sound. This comes as no surprise given the extensive musical background of each member, who have clearly distilled their collective experience into a powerhouse debut.

George Emmanuel, known for his work with Lucifer’s Child and Rotting Christ, handles the production, mixing, and mastering duties. His expertise brings forth massive riffs and a tapestry of melodies while drawing out sinister theatrical elements—likely influenced by his Rotting Christ experience.

The album weaves emotional depth with grandiose, pompous choruses throughout each track. Lyrically, the songs explore narratives inspired by mythology, historical accounts, and human nature itself.

Listeners will recognize elements reminiscent of classic Stratovarius, while tracks like Tides of Time evoke the spirit of early Running Wild. Without question, European metal enthusiasts will discover abundant qualities to appreciate throughout this impressive debut.

Score 8/10
