Rage of Angels – The Devil’s New Tricks review

Rage of Angels sophomore effort is something very special indeed. Whilst the début included a who’s who of melodic rock royalty providing guest vocals on each of the tracks, this is a far stronger more streamlined release that benefits from Rob Moratti being front and centre on each of the 10 tracks on offer.

Black Tide – Chasing Shadows review

Black Tide are back after an extended break (and several personnel changes along the way) with their third full length album, “Chasing Shadows”, which is already dividing opinion amongst their diehard fans. Few bands can boast the attention and praise that Black Tide received at such an early age in their career, resulting in them being rewarded with support slots for major players such as Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine. Their debut album, “Light From Above”, was extremely well received by media and fans alike, as was the follow-up, “Post Mortem”.

Stryper – Fallen review

In keeping with 2013’s album “Second Coming”, Stryper have indeed been ‘reborn’ and are currently riding high on a second career. Whether they ever manage to reach the heady heights of their career in the 1980s remains to be seen but on the strength of recent releases, the quality of their output cannot be brought into question.
So what of their latest offering, ”Fallen” to be released 16th Oct? Will it be “The Rock That Makes Me Roll” or will it be heading straight to the “Abyss”?

Circle II Circle – Reign of Darkness Review

Circle II Circle is back and has delivered the best album from their catalog yet. Reign of Darkness, as the name suggests, is a heavier, darker album from them, but nails what has made them such a fantastic band over the years, melodic, heavy, and captivating. This one does not disappoint, and will hopefully propel them to a higher profile position in the music world. If you have ever been a fan of this band or Zak in Savatage then this album should please you greatly.

Metal Allegiance – Metal Allegiance Review

Metal Allegiance is a musical collective celebrating the one thing that they/we all love. Thrash. The Tri Facta Team of Portonoy, Skloknick and Ellefson to create the foundation of these 9 little gems of headbanger candy is pure genius. The open creative door policy of Metal Allegiance is something that metal fans only dream about.

Symphony X – Underworld Review

Is it really four years since Symphony X’s last album ‘Iconoclast’ was released? A release that I personally struggled with as I found Russell Allen’s vocals to be too gruff too often rather than hitting the highs that I know he is more than capable of. Colleagues too had commented that something was perhaps lacking in the songs so it was with some trepidation that I approached this, their 9th release, ‘Underworld’.

Toto – XIV Review

Some album releases generate a modicum of interest, some are worthy of column inches in the national press and then there are those that can send a fan base into meltdown. With their first album since 2006’s ‘Falling In Between’, melodic rock and AOR forums have been buzzing with excitement and expectation about the new Toto album.

FM – Heroes and Villains Review

Sometimes you have to feel sorry for FM. To consistently deliver albums of such high quality means that fans’ expectations go up and the band of course are under increasing pressure to come up with the goods every time. To say that they comfortably manage to produce those goods does them a disservice as I’m sure that the time and effort taken to write, record and produce the 12 tracks on the album is considerable.
