Powerwolf, Ashes of Ares and Battle Beast Live at The Underworld Camden, London UK, September 27, 2013
Helloween finally made a triumphant return to the NYC area after their last visit here in 2009. They literally came “Straight out of Hell” bringing new tunes to their loyal fan base who made their presence known that night.

In 1985 Pretty Maids played the Hammersmith Odeon (September 18th to be precise) as support to British NWOBHM heroes Saxon. The tour on the back of their debut Red Hot & Heavy album promised a return to the UK shortly. To your average Danish hard rock band, shortly equates to 28 years at least for London anyways.
Thankfully not as they came back out a few minutes later to fly into Rusty Cage, a personal favourite of mine, but then killed all of the energy they had going with Like Suicide, which don’t get me wrong is a song I really like, but it’s a bit of a downer in an encore. The show ended with Beyond the Wheel and then a really annoying 10 minutes plus of an aural assault with just Ben and Kim on stage backs to the crowd and a lot of puzzled looks going on. The weird and at times wonderful Soundgarden for me at least just didn’t hit enough highs tonight, not a bad gig, but certainly not blown away either. Till next time I live in hope.
Saxon is currently touring North American with Chris Jericho’s Fozzy for 22 shows from September 12th- October 10th to support their latest CD release – Sacrifice. A hard-hitting anthemic metal CD that captures the true essence of the band, sounding more like a Saxon CD from the 80’s.
Anathema, Alcest and Mamiffer at Gramercy Theater, NYC on September 14th, 2013
The Borderline is regarded as a Soho musical institution. The basement venue, originally opened in 1976 in another guise has offered a stage for acts from Britpop to grunge and alt.folk and all points in between but is best known for its focus on alternative rock plus traditional rock and metal acts. It’s small with a capacity of around 275 and it is this limit that allows the crowds to get up close and personal with any band playing here.
