Formed almost thirty years ago, New York hardcore legends Sick Of It All have drawn a formidable fanbase to the Voodoo Lounge in Dublin for their first Irish gig since 2006, and anybody with more than a fleeting interest in crossover hardcore, punk and metal is sure to enjoy tonight’s show.
Old school death metal fans in Dublin had probably dismissed the notion of ever seeing melodic death metallers At The Gates performing in their home town after the band broke up in 1996.
Melodic Death Metallers Dark Tranquility had announced this early North American tour way back in the summer of last year. Talk about future planning head.
The encore resumes the mayhem with the intro and first track ‘(sic)’ from their career-launching first album. With two more old-school classic tracks; ‘People = Shit’ and ‘Surfacing’, the show ends in a blaze of glory, and leaves the exhausted, sweaty and elated audience in no doubt that this was a gig to remember. It was the first big metal show of the year and has definitely set the standard ridiculously high for any to follow.
