Elvenking are one of those bands that always deliver an excellent album, every time, and Reader of the Runes – Divination is no exception. It contains the same seamless blend of speedy, hard hitting power metal, and epic, uplifting folk metal as usual, while having some epic symphonic arrangements, and plenty of memorable huge, epic choruses, as always.
Elvenking has never been an easy band to predict, as almost all their albums to date have surprised listeners with either new elements added, certain elements reduced, or even with one key member being absent for one particular album. Their debut Heathenreel was a fresh and masterful take on power/folk metal
I took an interesting approach to this record simply because I have no previous mateial from the band to compare to and while some of my favorite folky metal bands like Wuthering Heights for instance actually cemented a special place in my heart when it came to my limitless taste in the genre, proving that if the music is well performed it has a chance to impress anybody.
