Behemoth live at The Academy, Dublin on December 11th, 2014

While tracks from The Satanist unsurprisingly feature prominently in the setlist, accompanied mostly by others from the last decade, they do make time for older tracks including their debut album opener, ‘Chant of the Eastern Lands’ before posing for a group photo and exiting the stage. Encouraging chants of “Be-he-moth” summon the foursome back to their ranks for a finale of ‘O Father O Satan O Sun!’, dressed in the eerie hooded robes and horns seen in the graphic ‘Blow Your Trumpets’ video. Thus ended a show that is surely the favourite for the title of “Best Irish Metal Event of 2014”, and massive appreciation is due to all who made it happen.

Dying Fetus and Goatwhore live at The Voodoo Lounge, Dublin, on November 20th, 2014

Promotion for tonight’s show in the Voodoo lounge was bound to raise some eyebrows with a line-up featuring Dying Fetus, Goatwhore, Malevolence and Fallujah. The band names alone leave no doubts that the gig is not for the faint-hearted, nor for fans of One Direction. But the 200 or so fans of brutal and technical death metal that have congregated are certainly in for a treat.

Revocation – Deathless Review

I have never listened to a Revocation album with my “reviewer” ears on so this was an interesting look into their music. I’m not super knowledgeable about them, but I do know that the wealth of their music I have been exposed to over the years has always been a good listen. Upon a closer inspection on Deathless, I think, for me at least, if they ever decided to do an all-instrumental album I would really love it. I still very much enjoyed this release, if for no other reason to hear an array of stellar six string mastery.
