Typically UK audiences only ever see DORO play festivals to it was a real honour to see the band in a smaller more intimate venue, filled with like minded fans all wanting to celebrate 30 years of the Metal Queen.
Like H.E.A.T, Brother Firetribe, Santa Cruz and Crashdiet to name a few, Eclipse are at the forefront of the current resurgence of hard rock bands and few do it it better.
The look of the set is reminiscent of a steam punk feel with metal, lights and steam in view. The design is finished with heads from latest album ‘Hydra’ surrounding the large video screen behind the band. It was only a few years ago that the band were playing venues with a maximum capacity of say 5,000 people. Tonight we are looking at around a crowd of 10,000 or more.
As the show finished, and after weaving among sweaty men in leather jackets for the exit sign, it was a knowing realisation that this is black metal at its finest.
It feels that Leaves’ Eyes with this latest release have really found their calling and the live arena showcases how the band has grown with each album
Jon Stevens is a solid front man, working the crowd and the stage well and they manage to make the small stage at the Underworld look ten times bigger than it usually is.
The Borderline is regarded as a Soho musical institution. The basement venue, originally opened in 1976 in another guise has offered a stage for acts from Britpop to grunge and alt.folk and all points in between but is best known for its focus on alternative rock plus traditional rock and metal acts. It’s small with a capacity of around 275 and it is this limit that allows the crowds to get up close and personal with any band playing here.
