During the recent tour of the UK with his band, Operation Mindcrime, leader singer and former front man with progressive metal icons Queensrÿche took time out to speak to Myglobalmind in Southend upon Sea. Not your typical heavy metal resort location but look up Chinnerys, the venue where the band are performing and you discover a wonderful musical history and a look at the walls confirms that pretty much anyone who is anyone has at some point pushed a flight case through the doors on the road to success.
Geoff Tate recently announced a mainland European tour to promote ’The Key’, the debut album by his new post-Queensrÿche project OPERATION: MINDCRIME. Four UK dates have now been added to the itinerary :
Geoff Tate needs little introduction. As frontman for Queensrÿche, the singer fronted the band for over two decades, and in the process released some of progressive metal’s finest albums. 1990’s ‘Empire’ and 1994’s ‘Promised Land’ may have sold more, however it’s 1988 release ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ that remains Queensrÿche’s finest hour.
At this point in my life, I would really like to work with people that I admire and people that are great players. And people that I share a creative bond with. And that’s very, very important to me. I spent 30 years with a group of people that didn’t share that. And so, it’s really a pleasure to play with enthusiastic, happy people who are really good players.
