The execution however isn’t quite as good as I would have hoped and the fact is they still sound like a band in its early stages. The biggest complaint I have here with the vocals, which just simply sound too raw and under-developed for my ears personally…

Cristiano Filippini – The First Crusade
Musically however, this is strictly movie score sounding stuff with a very operatic edge. Overall the pieces of music are a little sparse and I couldn’t help but wish there was a few more epic sounding moments throughout the disc…
Stargazery – Eye On The Sky
So I must say it’s very refreshing to be able to consider this album as pure and simple good old HEAVY METAL. Sure, there are some power metal and melodic metal elements here, but both of those genres stemmed from traditional metal anyway. For comparisons look no further than DIO, ASTRAL DOORS and Tony Martin era BLACK SABBATH…
Conflicted – Never Be Tamed
While progressive metal is most certainly the backbone of the CONFLICTED sound, they also know how important it is to keep a melodic flow throughout a song, so while there are flashes here and there of technical virtuosity it is not laid on too thick as to turn less technical minded folk away. Carlos Lichman – Genocide
The tracks are all heavy metal based once again sounding a bit like a Yngwie Mamlsteen record without any vocals. He combines the backbone of thrash metal with the technical proficiency of progressive metal and adds some pure speed metal for good measure, which leads me to another comparison to the eighties band CACOPHONY..
Circles of Mind – Revelation Insight
CIRCLE OF MIND are a Mexican power metal band with slight progressive metal tendencies and as far as I can tell REVELATION INSIGHT is their only release excluding a self-released E.P back in 2008…
Turisas – Stand Up And Fight
I’m just going to come out and say this…. STAND UP AND FIGHT is the band’s finest work so far and the quintessential battle metal album to own…
Jag Panzer – The Scourge Of The Light
JAG PANZER have returned with their first full-length album since the well-received 2004 long player CASTING THE STONES and while truthfully it’s pretty much more of the same, THE SCOURGE OF THE LIGHT is an album sure to please fans of the band and make a few waves in the traditional metal and power metal circles throughout the year…
