Brant Bjork is one of the leading pioneers of the desert/ stoner sound. And with each album he releases, he proves it.
We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again, Heavy Psych Sounds are one of the top labels when it comes to the stoner/ desert rock sounds
Speedblow is a Greek stoner/doom metal group, which started up during 2009 and soon released their first self-titled promo EP
Attalla has jumped into the mix with a heavy hitter of their own
This album is a super charged rock heavy ride of dark vocals combined with the ultimate in musicianship with guitar and drums weaving a web of storytelling with each track. I love the way the whole adventure begins and ends with instrumental tracks.
A band that will surely remain in the shadows with this line up but worth a listen is you want to hear some harrowing underground metal.
Stoner rock is a bit of an oddball genre for me. It’s like some bands are actually catchy enough to hold my interest and just make fun music to listen to (Monster Magnet comes to mind) but some bands are just so weird and noisy that you really need to have a spliff or two before you can start to enjoy their music (Sleep, Electric Wizard)
a strong nod to nineties Heavy Alternative bands like RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, ALICE IN CHAINS and definitely SOUNDGARDEN…
there’s plenty of droning, doomy, stoner guitar riffs, there’s also some faster paced metal moments that keep things interesting…
Yes, simple fact…. I really enjoyed this album and try as I might there really isn’t that much to complain about. Maybe if anything I would have preferred a bit more gusto on the guitar effects and maybe a bit more lower-end on the production in general, but keeping in mind this is self-released project I am more than willing to look over these minor discrepancies and just appreciate the great music to be found in the disc.
