Stand by to have your world well and truly rocked by some seriously heavy rock from South Wales. King Kraken was formed in 2018 by five stalwarts of the South Wales rock scene. It must have been destiny that got them together because they have created a fantastic slab of world-class heavy rock.

Karl Meyer’s deep rumbling bass starts ‘Devil’s Night’ and is soon joined by a spidery riff and pounding drums before the masculine voice of Mark Donoghue makes you sit up and take notice. Heavy and powerful with a touch of melody before the brutal and crushing ‘Bastard Liar’ keeps your attention. We get an absolute beasting on ‘Green Terror’ where guitarists Pete Rose and Adame Healey bludgeon you senseless. ‘Vein’ has a bit more melody but is still fast and nasty, telling the tale of a drug addict who dies. Demons come for him, but he tries to repent only – it’s too late! ‘Haddenfield ‘78’ is another absolute beast as all songs about serial killers should be then we get some chug and groove with ‘Man Made Monster’ before the slow stomp of ‘Walls Of Jericho’. ‘Proctors Lodge’ brings some sludge then ‘Chaos Engine’ brings Meyer’s bass up again on another massive groove. ‘Castle Of Bone’ ends things with a heavy grind that slaps you round the head and kicks you in the shins.

WOW – This is superb. Heavy, groovy with monster-sized riffs. The production is superb, and the songs are well crafted. If you like it big, dark, and heavy then look no further. 2023 is off to a great start and this can be added to the top of the list.
